The European Regional Development Fund, or ERDF, is a fund allocated by the European Union tasked with providing investment in infrastructure and development projects with the aim to grow businesses in specific target areas. Cornwall was identified as one such area and, in 2017, Avanti and BT won funding to develop business connectivity across the county. BT are currently rolling out an extension of their fibre network to some key urban areas in the county, however many businesses across Cornwall remain out of reach of the fibre network. This is where Avanti’s superfast satellite broadband services are being deployed with the help of two certified service providers who will manage the installation and on-going service.
Who is Avanti?
Avanti launched its first telecommunication satellite (Hylas 1) in 2010. Avanti was the first to provide internet services using satellite capacity across the UK and Europe. Since then, we’ve continued to innovate and develop a world-leading satellite network infrastructure with a fleet of satellites providing high speed broadband across Europe, Middle-East and Africa. With a strong local presence at the Goonhilly Earth Station, we provide superfast satellite broadband across the region.
Who are the certified service partners we use?
Avanti is a wholesale satellite broadband company and work with carefully chosen service providers to carry out the installation of equipment and manage the on-going service to businesses using satellite broadband. For this ERDF scheme, we’ve partnered with Big Blu and Freedomsat, two long-standing, trusted partners of Avanti. They manage all aspects of installation and service.
